My Ode to Garlic

Garlic, where do I begin? How I love thee. You are my daily dose of multi-vitamins, my remedy for anti-aging, my anti-depressant, my anti-bacterial, you are my anti-viral medication that hasn’t been put on the market yet. You are my cholesterol medication, my treatment for ADHD, you are my connection to the most ancient remedies of humanity.  You are a divine gift.  I almost wonder if you weren’t genetically altered at birth to be so perfect for me.  You were made for me, and I you.

My love and dependence on you grow daily.  I need you in the morning freshly pressed onto my omelet.  I need you in the afternoon, rolled into my four o’clock pm hummus toast.  I need you in the evening before bed chopped delicately and folded into my tofu with brown rice.   If I can have you again with black beans and tomatoes, I will.

You are sweet, pungent, and you sting in all the right places.  Your arsenal has saved me from numerous trips to the doctor’s office, and I am eternally grateful for your fight against cancerous cells.  I will go to bed after having had you, I will wake up to you, I can’t live without you.
